Sketch for a book cover: The Brahma-Samhita

I was just commissioned a medium size painting which will be illustrating a book and also will adorn the walls of an ashram.

I always first make a sketch with as much details as possible, then I produce a full color sketch, so I do not flounder with my colors. Those sketches take time, but ensure a very smooth production of a large canvas. This time my canvas is 24" x 31", not a huge piece but since there are only two figures represented here they will be quite large.

Underpainting stage

I like to start with an underpainting. There are many ways to do such an underpainting in preparation for future glazes. This underpainting is mostly using raw umber and lead white.
