Painting commissioned for a book cover: The Brahma-Samhita

I have developed the underpainting so colors can soon be applied.

I have gone back to use both my mediums, one slow drying, the other fast drying. This way I can easily paint wet in wet. I apply either a transparent glaze of the slow drying medium or a glaze loaded with raw umber, and work the details into this with my fast drying medium. I use life models as much as possible for the figures. For the figure of Brahma I have 2 different models. One is great for the body shape, the other for the face. It is not always easy to find someone absolutely fitting the bill.

Underpainting stage

I like to start with an underpainting. There are many ways to do such an underpainting in preparation for future glazes. This underpainting is mostly using raw umber and lead white.
