New oil painting by Dominique Amendola: City market in Bangalore India

This painting was executed in India as the previous ones were too.
In this painting many Indian citizens are heading towards the market, Muslins and Hindus have the same purpose: to get groceries, fruits and vegetables. On the right side, a mosque is represented, usually painted in green as seen here.
On the foreground some motorcycle riders are poised at the intersection. You can see on the right, a muslin couple, on the left the typical south indian Hindu couple.
The composition is complex, almost divided in two halves: on the right the mosque and the muslin couple on a motorcycle, on the left the traditional hindus on their motorcycle rides.
It becomes all mixed up in the back where the crowd is hurrying towards the market street or coming out loaded with shopping bags. As far as the linear composition goes, the figures on the left are inviting us within the painting on a diagonal, while the muslin couple as well as the buildings in the background are forming an horizontal line, stabilising the composition.

I focused on the figures in the foreground, giving them more details that the groups in the background. See the difference in the details below:

New oil painting by Dominique Amendola: North India street scene

This painting was executed in India as the previous ones were too. The golden light is an evening occurence with the long shadows. The technique uses both paint brushes and palette knife.

Notice how the figures do not really have defined feature.

This is a painting with a very pleasant evening light, full of life all over the canvas, with contrasts of details and technique depicting life in typical North India.

The making of Three guys with a dog, oil painting by Dominique Amendola

This painting came as a result of seeing a nineteen century painting of a streetscene with a lot of life in it. It was not a famous painting, but it was large, perhaps 3 times larger than Three guys with a dog. I saw it in a museum in France, and did not get an image of it. But shortly afterwards I visited the port of La Rochelle and was inspired to paint a street scene there.
At first I created a study for this painting of 11" x 14". Here it is below:

In France, everybody is smoking in the streets and my red jacket man is holding a cigarette. But in the final painting, I made this inauspicious item disappear:

You can see that in the final rendition, the cigarette is gone. You can also notice how there are more details in the final painting and things are more three dimensional.

Having done a study for this painting, the final painting came easily. When I have a complicated composition, this is usually my routine: I paint a full color study, after creating many sketches.

And of course the hero of the painting, the dog, is well described as seen below:

The making of a small oil painting on wood panel: "Couple eating a snack" by Dominique Amendola

I began with the wood panel support, made of birch plywood of the best quality. I sanded and primed the panel 3, 4 times. Every time a new coat of primer was applied I carefully sanded it. To paint on those wood panels is a pleasure: the brush glides on the surface and allows very fine brush strokes, unlike canvas, which is a bit rougher. There are many different types of canvases, from portrait (very fine) to rough. There is cotton canvas, linen canvas, and even synthetic cloth canvas. Anyway, if the consideration of weigh when shipping a painting was not a problem I would always prefer painting on wood, because the brush just glides on the surface and very fine details come out superbly.
With this painting, I did not want details, however, rather I was looking for a contemporary impressionist look.

Also, my idea was to have the viewer focus on the figures rather than the background. I therefore kept all surrounding elements monochrome and used colors only on the figures and bench. I also believe in "key notes" in my artwork. These "key notes" are usually two colors contrasting and one color being the "key". It is more or less what is called a split complementary color scheme as shown below:

As you can see I used purple( the girl's shirt) and orange ( the bench) contrasting with green (the girl's pants).

The composition is also very elaborate: The girl's leg being a diagonal is inviting us inside the picture, while the boy's legs stops the eye from going out of the picture. As we learn in Social Media, not to take people out of a website by using a link directing them to another website and therefore distracting their attention, similarly, the artist always endeavors to keep the viewer's eye riveted to the artwork. However, the most important thing in a painting is the emotion and no technique or tricks can replace the emotion conveyed in an artwork.

In this painting, I felt the peaceful attitude of this couple, satisfied to take a break on a bench near a store front and this is what I desired to impart to the viewer.

This is a commissioned painting where many figures are involved, creating a typical idyllic village scene in South India. It is a lush place, with water, grass, school girls coming home, smiling girls carrying water pots on their heads, children playing on bicycles, goats, and bullock cart. Everyone is relaxed and living happily side by side.

Carriero Du Pourtegue, is the name of a village in Provence, France, also called Carros. This is painted on location, in Summer in the old village. Carros is a very old commune with a lot of charm. In this painting some older resident of the village is calmly descending the street with his basket.

Original oil painting of a street scene in an old village in provence, north of Nice. Aspremont is a picturesque perched village with the houses tightly circled around the hill in concentric circles, and even the gardens and orchards are ringed around the lower part of the hill in circular terraces. This particular view is from the medieval village : Villevieille.
